Veraz Restaurant

Up here in Aizawl, on Zarkawt Main Street, life moves at its own pace. Veraz Restaurant is our little corner of the city. We are right near the Regency Hotel, so we get a lot of people who are just visiting the area and looking for something to eat. The building is called Sanghliri. It’s a busy street, especially in the mornings when everyone is heading to work. We open up early to get the kitchen ready. The air in Aizawl can get pretty chilly, so we try to keep the place feeling warm. It’s not a very big restaurant. We have some tables squeezed in, and the kitchen noise carries a bit into the dining area. We’ve been here for a while, and the neighborhood has changed a lot, but the street is still the main hub. Sometimes the rain here is so heavy you can't see across the road, and those are the days we just sit and drink tea with whoever wanders in. We don't have a corporate office or anything. It's just us at the counter and the guys in the back cooking. We serve the kind of food we grew up with. The sign outside has seen better days, but it still does the job. Zarkawt is a good place to be if you want to see the real Aizawl. We just keep the doors open and see who comes through every day.
