If you’re looking for 5 / 2 in Bapu Bazar, we are the ones right near the SBI ATM. Usha Watch Service is a small operation, really just a one-room shop with a counter and some display shelves. Having the ATM next door is handy because people often realize they have a few minutes to kill while their family is doing something else. The shop gets a bit dusty because of the main road, so I’m always wiping things down with a yellow cloth. I’ve got a small lamp clamped to my desk that I use to see the inner workings of the watches. It’s mostly battery replacements and strap adjustments these days, but every now and then someone brings in an old pocket watch or a wind-up alarm clock. I like those the most because you can really hear them working. The noise of Bapu Bazar is always there in the background—the rickshaws, the people bargaining, and the general hum of the city. I keep a bottle of water and a small tiffin box under the counter for my lunch. It’s not the kind of place that has a big staff; it’s usually just me here from morning until we close up at night. I’ve got a rhythm down now after all these years at this spot. It’s just a regular shop doing regular work for the people around here without any of the extra polish of the big malls.
