Our shop, Sheetal Watch Co, is tucked into 179 Main Road, right in the middle of Bapu Bazar. If you know the bazar, you know how hectic it gets with all the shoppers and the bikes zooming past. Inside the shop, it’s a bit different. I try to keep it organized, but when you’re dealing with things as small as watch hands, things tend to get a little cluttered on the workbench. I’ve got a couple of old chairs for customers to sit on while they wait for a battery change. The floor is that old grey stone that stays cool even when it’s hot outside, which is nice in the summer months. Most of the people who come in are regulars from the neighborhood who have been coming here for years. They usually stop by to chat for a bit even if they don't have anything that needs fixing. I spend a lot of time winding the clocks on the wall every morning so they all stay in sync, though a few of the older ones always seem to lose a minute or two by the evening. The light comes in through the front window and hits the glass cases just right in the early afternoon. It’s just me and the watches most days, working through the pile of repairs that grows throughout the week. It's a living, and I've gotten used to the rhythm of the bazar. It isn't much, but it's our spot on the road.
