The House Of The Rising Sun

The House Of The Rising Sun is located within the Woodville Palace Hotel grounds on Raj Bhawan Road. This part of Shimla, with the 171002 pin code, feels different from the busy Mall Road area. It is quieter and has a lot of old trees around. We are part of an estate that has been here since the British times, so the architecture is all old stone and wood. You have to walk up a bit of a hill to get to us, but that is common for anywhere in the mountains. We spend our mornings watching the mist clear off the valley. The interiors have a lot of character, with old rugs and windows that let in the morning light, which is probably why the place got its name. We don't have modern elevators or shiny glass walls. Instead, we have creaky floorboards and fireplaces that we have to keep going when the winter sets in. The staff here spends a lot of time keeping the garden tidy and making sure the monkeys don't get into the kitchen. It’s a relaxed pace of life compared to the city. We aren't a high-speed operation; things take a little longer here, and we think that's okay. Most people come here to get away from the noise, and we just let them be while we go about our chores around the palace.
