Living and working up here in Mashobra is quite different from the life you find in the city. At Kennedy House, we are surrounded by the trees at Whispering Pines, and it gets very quiet at night. Shimla is just a short drive away, but out here it feels like another world sometimes. The air is thinner and much colder, especially when the winter starts to set in. We spend a lot of time making sure there is enough wood for the fires and that the blankets are thick enough for the guests. The road up to Gables Mashobra can be a bit winding, so we always tell people to take their time driving. We don't have the big city shops right next door, so we have to plan ahead for everything we need for the kitchen and the rooms. Most of us here have grown up around these hills, so we don't mind the steep walks or the occasional monkey trying to get into the kitchen area. It’s a simple life for the most part. We keep the rooms tidy and make sure there is hot tea ready when people arrive from their long journeys. The view of the valley changes every day depending on the clouds. Sometimes you can't see five feet in front of you because of the thick fog. We just wait for it to clear and keep on with our daily chores, like sweeping the porch and checking the water tanks for the day.
