Pravin Masalewale

If you walk down towards the Hadapsar Industrial Estate, you’ll find us at number 44. The air around here usually smells like turmeric or chili, depending on what we are grinding that morning. Pravin Masalewale has been operating from this same spot for a long time. It’s a busy area with a lot of noise from the other factories, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. Inside, there is always someone moving boxes or checking the machines. We don't have a big marketing department or anyone to write fancy letters. We just focus on getting the spices ready and packed so they can go out to the shops. The floor is usually covered in a fine layer of spice dust, and we all wear aprons to keep our clothes from getting stained. It is hard work, especially when it gets hot in the summer and the chili fumes make everyone sneeze. We take our breaks together and talk about the local news or how the traffic was on the way in. We aren't trying to change the world or anything like that. We just want to make sure the packets we send out are full and sealed properly. It’s a simple business run by people who have lived in this part of town forever. That’s just the way we like to do things here. We don't have time to worry about much else besides the daily grind.
