Sudama Overseas

Our office is in the Rehman Building, Plot 49/18, which is just a short walk from the Maruti Temple in Lower Parel. This part of town has changed so much with all the big malls and glass buildings, but Sudama Overseas still feels like the old Mumbai. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint and the stairs are a bit steep, but it’s home for us. We handle a lot of overseas work, so there’s always a pile of paperwork on someone’s desk and the printer is usually running. The temple bells are a nice sound to hear in the mornings when we are just opening up the shutters. It’s a busy spot and finding parking around here is almost impossible, so most of us just take the train. We don’t have a big team, just a few people who know the business inside and out. We share a small fridge and everyone brings their own tiffin for lunch. Sometimes we stay late when there’s a big shipment to coordinate with time zones elsewhere. It’s a simple setup with wooden desks and some old metal filing cabinets that squeak when you open them. We don’t bother with fancy meetings or long presentations. We just talk over the stuff that needs doing and then we do it. It’s practical and it works for us in this crowded neighborhood.
