If you are looking for Kashmir Arts & Crafts (India), you have to come down to Shahid Bapat Singh Road and find Room 14. We are on the first floor, which is a bit of a climb if the weather is humid, but it is not too bad. Being near the G.P.O. means the street is always packed with people and delivery vans. Our space is right opposite Shes Punjab, so we usually smell whatever they are cooking for lunch. The room is not very big, and we have stuff stacked up almost to the ceiling in some corners. It is a bit of a squeeze when more than two people are trying to walk through at the same time. We have been here in this building for many years, and the wooden floorboards have some creaks that we have just gotten used to. There is a small window that looks out onto the street, but it stays shut mostly because of the city noise and the dust. We handle everything ourselves, from opening the boxes to answering the old telephone that still sits on the main desk. It is a quiet place inside compared to the chaos of the road downstairs. We do not do much advertising or anything like that. Most folks who come up those stairs are looking for something specific they heard we had. It is just a regular office where we do our business every day.
