Gurjar Kutir Udyog

Our place is in the Baku Shop Compound, right near the Kabutar Khana in Matunga East. If you know the area, you know it's a spot where everyone gathers. We run a small cottage industry type of setup here. It’s not a factory or anything massive. Just a small group of us working on various products. The Laxmi Narayan area is usually quite lively. We’ve been in this compound for several years now. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are often too busy with the daily work to worry about that. Most of our tools are ones we've used for a long time. We make things by hand mostly. It’s a bit dusty sometimes because of the materials we use. We don't have a big marketing department or anything like that. People just hear about us from their neighbors or friends. Matunga East has a certain feel to it, and we fit right in. We usually have the radio playing in the background while we work. It keeps things from being too quiet during the long afternoons. Some days are slower than others, but we always find something to do. We keep our supplies tucked away in the back corners. It's a practical space. We don't need much more than our workbench and some good light. If you pass by the kabutar khana, you aren't far from where we sit and do our work every day.
