Sulthan Restaurant

We’re over on North Veli Street in Madurai. It’s usually pretty loud outside because we are right by the Anna Statue in Yanaikkal. Most days start early with the traffic picking up and people heading to work. We’ve been here for a while now. The building isn't brand new or anything, but it works for what we do. Inside, it's mostly about getting the food ready for the lunch rush. Madurai gets really hot, so people come in to get out of the sun for a bit. You see all sorts of people walking by the statue. We just keep things moving, cleaning tables and making sure there's enough water. It’s a busy spot, especially in the evenings when everyone is out. Sometimes the street gets blocked up with bikes. We don't have fancy decorations. It's just a place to eat and then get back to whatever you were doing. The kitchen gets hot, but that's just how it is. We know the neighbors around Yanaikkal pretty well. Most of our day is spent prepping vegetables or dealing with the suppliers who pull up out front. It’s not a quiet life on this street. We just open the doors and see who comes in. There’s always something happening near the statue. We just stay focused on the pots and pans and the people waiting for their plates. It is a simple routine that we have followed for a long time now.
