Ananthabhavan Restaurant

This restaurant is tucked away in the Suprabatham Residency building on Melur Road. We are right in Madurai East, which is always busy because we’re directly opposite the Mattuthavani Bus Stand. You can imagine the amount of people moving around outside at all hours of the day and night. The heat in Madurai can be something else, so we try to keep the place feeling alright for anyone who walks in off the street. We’ve been here for a bit now, and the routine hasn't changed much. The staff shows up early to start the prep work in the kitchen, and you can hear the pots and pans clanking from the back long before the first customers arrive. It’s a simple setup with tables and chairs that have seen a lot of use over the years. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls, just the basics. People come in with their bags from the bus stand, looking for a quick bite or a place to sit for a minute before their next trip. We see all sorts of travelers, some in a hurry and others just killing time. Sometimes it gets really crowded and we’re all running around trying to keep up, but that’s just how it goes. When the evening comes and the lights go on outside, the place feels a bit different, but the work stays the same.
