Chandran Mess

Chandran Mess is located at No 79, Alagarkovil Road in Tallakulam, Madurai. We are right near the Saravana Stores. In Madurai, people really appreciate a good mess. We don't have a fancy interior with decorations. It’s just rows of wooden tables and benches. It can get very crowded and loud during the lunch hour. We serve on banana leaves because that’s the traditional way and people expect it. The kitchen is in the back and it’s always hot because of the stoves. We grind our own masala every day by hand. It’s a lot of physical work, but we are used to it. My family has been doing this for a long time. We don't have an air conditioner. We just have these large fans on the ceiling that have been there forever. There is no menu card here. We just serve whatever is fresh that day. People come in, eat quickly, and go back to their work. It’s a fast-moving place. Tallakulam is a busy part of the city, so there is always noise from the traffic. We don't do any advertising or have a social media page. The people who eat here know us and they bring their friends. It’s a simple business based on hard work. We start early to get the vegetables ready. We don't have any big goals other than keeping the mess running well every day.
