Royal Chettinad Family Restaurant

Being on Anna Nagar Main Road in Madurai means it is almost always busy outside. We are right by the Section Office bus stop, so there’s always people walking past our door or waiting for their ride. It’s a family-run kind of place and we’ve been at this spot for some time. We start early in the morning, getting the spices ready and putting the pots on the stove. You can smell the cooking from the street. Families come in here for lunch and dinner, and it gets loud with kids and conversation. That’s just how we like it. We aren't trying to be some five-star hotel. We just have simple tables and a staff that works hard to keep things moving. Madurai can get really hot, so we try to keep the place comfortable for whoever walks in. Sometimes we run out of certain things if the market was short that day, but we always have something on the stove. It’s a lot of manual work, chopping and stirring and cleaning floors. We don’t use any fancy machines for our cooking. It’s mostly just us and our hands. If you are near the Section Office, you’ll see our sign. It’s just a normal spot for people who want a meal without any fuss. We stay open late enough to catch the last few people heading home from work. It is a long day, but it's what we know.
