Chellaye Bricks

You can find us out in Village Veeraneanthal. We are right on the Madurai-Rameswaram Road, which is a busy stretch for trucks and buses passing through. Being near Thiruppuvanam in the Sivakangai district means we deal with a lot of local builders and people fixing up their homes. The ground here is good for what we do, but the sun is really something else in the afternoons. We spend most of the day out in the open, checking the kiln and making sure the bricks are stacking up right. It is hard work and my hands are always stained with that reddish clay color. We don't have a fancy office, just a small shed where we keep the records and escape the heat for a bit. My family has been around this area for a long time. Sometimes the rain messes with our schedule and we have to cover everything up in a hurry. You might see the smoke from the road if you are driving toward Rameswaram. We don't have a website or anything like that, just the sign by the gate. People usually pull over because they saw the stacks from the highway. It is a bit dusty and loud with the traffic, but it is our livelihood. We just focus on getting the bricks ready and loaded onto the tractors. It is a basic operation, nothing too complicated about it.
