Amma Mess

Our mess is on Alagar Kovil Road in Madurai. We are situated near the Express Studio in the Tallakulam area. It is a busy street with lots of vehicles and people walking by all the time. We have been serving food here for years now. It is not a big place, just a simple room with some tables and chairs for people to sit. Most of our customers are regulars who come in every single day for their meals. We know what they like to eat without them even asking us for a menu. The cooking is done in a small kitchen at the back of the building. We use a lot of local spices that we buy from the market nearby every few days. Everything is handled by just a few of us. We don't have any managers or corporate rules to follow. We just show up, cook, and serve the people who come in. The floors get cleaned a few times a day because of the dust coming in from the road. Sometimes it gets really crowded and people have to wait for a stool to open up, but they don't seem to mind much. We don't have a menu on paper, we just tell people what we have made for the day. It is a very direct and simple way of doing things. Madurai is known for its food, and we just try to be a part of that tradition in our own way.
