Sarang Restaurant

You can find Sarang Restaurant at 15A, Jawaharlal Nehru Road in Dharmatala. Being in the 700013 area of Kolkata means things are never quiet. There is always a tram or a bus going by right outside the door. We have been here for years, watching the street change while we stay mostly the same. The restaurant has high ceilings and old-fashioned fans that have been spinning since before I can remember. It gets quite a bit of light from the big windows in the front, though the glass gets dirty pretty fast from the city soot. We have a lot of regular customers who have been coming here since they were young. They usually sit in the same spots every time. The staff knows most of them by sight. We don’t spend money on fancy advertisements or neon signs that flash too much. The name is just there on the board outside. Inside, it's just rows of tables where people eat and talk. Sometimes the floor is a bit uneven, but nobody seems to mind. We focus on getting the food out and making sure people have a place to sit during the lunch rush. It’s a busy, noisy, and real part of Dharmatala. We just open the shutters in the morning and keep going until the last customer leaves at night. It is just a local place for anyone hungry on Jawaharlal Nehru Road.
