If you go behind the Chitpur Crossing on Madan Mohan Burman St, you will find us at number 6. Ritu Aahar Restaurant has been tucked away here for some time. This part of Kolkata is always crowded with people and rickshaws, so it can be a bit loud. We don’t mind it much. The building is old, like many others around here. We spend our mornings getting the kitchen ready before the lunch rush starts. We don’t have much in the way of decor, just some basic chairs and tables that have seen a lot of use. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we focus more on what’s cooking in the pots. It is a small space so it gets a little cramped when everyone comes in at once. We know most of the people who work in the shops nearby. They come in for a quick meal and a chat. We don’t have a website or any of that stuff. If you want to eat, you just show up and see what we have. Sometimes we run out of certain things by the evening, but we try to keep enough for everyone who stops by. It’s just a regular local spot for food without any of the extra fuss. We’ve been here for years and hope to stay for many more. It's a lot of work but we enjoy seeing the same faces every day. It feels like home to us.
