Ratan

Ratan is a local shop located on Raja Sc Mullick Road in the Bagha Jatin area of Kolkata. Our pin code is 700086. It’s a very busy road with buses and autos going by all day long. We are part of the daily life here in South Kolkata. The shop is small and we’ve been here for quite some time now. It’s not one of those big shopping malls you see popping up everywhere. It’s a traditional place where we actually know the names of our neighbors. Bagha Jatin is a crowded neighborhood, and we are right in the thick of it. Every morning we open up the shutters and sweep the front of the shop. The heat in Kolkata can be quite something in the summer, so we try to keep the shop as airy as possible. We don't have a big marketing plan or a team of experts. We just sell what people need and talk to the customers when they come in. A lot of people stop by on their way to the market or the nearby station. We see the same faces every morning. It’s a simple way to run a business, really. We handle everything ourselves, from stocking the shelves to talking to the people who bring us our goods. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when the road is jammed outside, but that’s just life in Kolkata. We don't use any fancy English.
