Piyali Restaurant

Piyali Restaurant is on the ground floor of 19 Dr S P Mukherjee Road in Dum Dum. We are very close to the Dumdum Police Station. If you walk down this road in Kolkata, you will see us right there. It is an old part of the city. The buildings have that weathered look from years of rain and sun. Our shop is not very big. We have the usual tables and chairs that have been here for years. The street outside is always noisy with rickshaws and people walking to the station. We open up in the morning and the first thing we do is sweep the front step. The police officers from the station next door often walk past. We have a few fans on the ceiling that hum all day long to keep the air moving. It gets quite humid in Kolkata, so those fans are important. We do not have a fancy menu or anything like that. We just make what we know. The kitchen is small and tucked in the back. You can hear the pans clanking and the water running while you sit in the front. We see the same people every day, like the man who sells newspapers on the corner. It is a humble place. We do not try to be anything we are not. We just provide a meal and a place to sit for a while in this busy part of Dum Dum.
