Nola Indo Sino is tucked away on the first floor of the Star Theatre Complex. If you know Bidhan Sarani in Kolkata, you know how crowded and loud it gets around there most of the time. We are at 79/3/4, right in the middle of all that history and noise. The building itself has seen better days, but it has a lot of character that we like. We decided to focus on Indo-Chinese food because that’s what everyone in this part of town seems to crave after a movie or while they are out shopping. The kitchen is small but we make it work. It gets really hot in there during the summer months, even with the fans going full blast. We spend our mornings chopping onions and ginger and getting the sauces ready. A lot of students come in because we are close to the colleges and the prices are okay for them. We don't have a lot of fancy decorations, just some plain walls and the smell of garlic and soy sauce in the air. Sometimes the lift in the complex stops working, so people have to walk up the stairs, but they don't seem to mind too much. It’s a family-run kind of thing, and we’ve been here long enough that the neighboring shopkeepers always stop by for a quick chat. We just keep our heads down and keep cooking. It’s a noisy, busy life here in Beadon Street but we wouldn't change it.
