New Cathay Restaurant

New Cathay Restaurant is located at 17/1 Chowringhee Road, inside the Grand Hotel Arcade. This is one of the oldest parts of Kolkata and you can feel the history when you walk around here. Outside on the street, it is always chaotic with people, vendors, and yellow taxis. Inside our restaurant, it is a bit more peaceful. We have very high ceilings and old wooden furniture that has been here for a long time. The fans spin slowly and the light is a bit dim. We have been serving food here for many years, watching the city change outside our windows. Our waiters are older men who have worked with us for a long time. They don't need to write down your order because they know everything by heart. The menu is just a simple piece of paper with the dishes we have been making for decades. It is a mix of different styles that you only find in Kolkata. Sometimes the service takes a little while if the place is full, but we think it’s better not to rush. People come here to escape the heat of Chowringhee and sit for a while. We don't do any marketing or have a fancy entrance. People find us because their families have been coming here for generations.
