Mirch Masala Restaurant

We’ve been tucked away here behind the Pantaloon showroom on Gariahat Road in Ballygunge for quite some time now. If you know the area, you know how busy it gets with all the shoppers and people rushing to catch buses. Our spot at 49/2 is usually full of that energy. We start early in the morning, getting the kitchen ready before the lunch rush kicks in. It’s not a very big space, and sometimes it gets a bit cramped when everyone shows up at once, but we make do. The fans hum along and the staff is always moving. We aren't doing anything revolutionary here. It's just a restaurant where people come to eat when they're hungry. We spend most of our day dealing with suppliers and making sure the floors are wiped down. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we haven't gotten around to it yet. You’ll find us easily enough if you look for the showroom first. Most of our customers are locals or folks who work in the nearby offices. They like the fact that they can just walk in, sit down, and get a meal without any fuss. We don’t have fancy uniforms or a complex menu. It's just straightforward. Sometimes a lightbulb flickers or a chair wobbles, but that's just the character of an old building in Kolkata. We just keep the stove going and wait for the next person to walk in.
