If you go to 15, Queens Park in Ballygunge, you will find Kedartala Dakshinpara Primary School. This part of the city is a bit quieter than the main busy roads. The school handles the younger children, so it’s a lot of small faces and bright school bags. The building is tucked away, and it feels a bit like a large home that turned into a school over time. We have rooms filled with primary school stuff—mostly just basic supplies and rows of small benches for the little ones. It gets very noisy when the kids are let out for their break. You can hear them laughing and running from the street. Our staff members are mostly local people who have lived in Kolkata for many years. They know how to handle the kids when they get a bit restless in the heat. We don't have a huge playground, but the kids find ways to play together in the open spaces we have. The floors are made of stone and they stay cool even when it’s hot outside. We spend our mornings checking the attendance and making sure everyone has their lunch box. It’s a very straightforward way of running things. There are no fancy gadgets here, just books and teachers who talk until they are tired. It’s a steady place for a child to start out. We keep the gate locked for safety and wait for parents at the finish.
