About Kaveri Lower Primary School – Education in Kolkata
It's a lot of noise here at 115 Main Road, mostly because the kids are so small. Being on Park Street means there is always a car honking or someone shouting outside, but inside the school, it’s a different kind of loud. These are the younger ones, so there is a lot of running around and the occasional scraped knee. We spend most of the morning trying to keep them in their seats. The classrooms have low chairs and tables which makes it easier for the little ones to reach things. I usually start my day by checking if the water coolers are filled up properly. The parents come to drop them off right at the entrance, and sometimes it gets a bit crowded on the sidewalk. It’s a simple setup we have here in this part of Kolkata. We don’t have a big playground, so they play in the common areas or the bigger rooms when it is raining. You can see drawings they’ve made taped up on the windows facing the street. Sometimes the tape gives out and the papers flutter down to the floor. We go through a lot of crayons and snacks every week. It’s a bit messy with the glue and the playdough, but that is how it goes with lower primary school. We’ve been at this spot for some time now and most people in the local area just walk their kids over. It’s a local place for families who live nearby.
