If you walk around the New Market area in Kolkata, specifically at the crossing of Lindsay and Chowringhee, you’ll find us. Hindusthan Restaurant & Bar has been standing right here on Jawaharlal Nehru Road for many years. It is a busy corner, always full of people rushing to buy things or catch a bus. Our place is where folks come to sit down for a bit and escape the noise of the street outside. It’s got that old Kolkata feel to it, maybe a bit dark inside but cool enough when the sun is beating down on the pavement. We serve food and drinks to whoever walks through the door, from regulars who have been coming for decades to tourists who got lost looking for the market. The staff knows most of the faces that come in every Friday evening. We don’t do anything too fancy with the decor, just the usual tables and chairs that have seen a lot of use. It gets quite crowded on the weekends when the shoppers need a break. We try to keep things simple and just focus on getting the orders out. Working in this part of town means things are never quiet, but we like the energy of the crossing. It’s just a straightforward spot to have a drink and a meal while the city moves past the windows. We aren't trying to be the most modern place around, just a steady one.
