Esplanade Inn

Our place is right in the middle of Dharmatala, very close to the Metro Cinema on S N Banerjee Road. If you are walking around that part of the city, you really can’t miss the area because it is always crowded with people. We have been running the inn here for a while, and it is a simple building, nothing too loud or flashy. We spend a lot of our time checking people in and making sure the rooms are tidy enough for the next guest. The street outside is usually full of yellow taxis and people rushing to catch buses. Sometimes the noise from the traffic gets inside, but that is just how it is living in this part of town. We don’t have a big fancy lobby, just a small space where we sit and keep the keys. Most of the people who stay with us are just looking for a place to sleep while they do their work in the city. We try to keep the water running and the lights on, which is what matters most. In the mornings, you can hear the city waking up quite early. We usually have some tea and start the day’s chores. It’s a lot of laundry and sweeping, keeping things moving along. It is an old building, so it has its quirks, like doors that squeak or windows that are a bit stiff. But it works for us.
