BIRIYANI MAHAL is found on the ground floor on J N Tiwari Road in the Dum Dum area of Kolkata. We are situated quite close to Gorabazar, which is a very busy and noisy part of the city. If you know this neighborhood, you know how crowded it gets with all the shoppers and people going to work. Our shop is right in the middle of all that daily activity. We have been operating out of this specific space for a while now, and the routine has become second nature to us. We open the heavy shutters in the morning and start getting everything ready for the day ahead. Kolkata is a city that really loves its food, so we try to make sure there is enough for everyone who stops by. The space inside isn't massive, but we have fit in as many tables as the room allows. It can get quite hot in the summer months, but we keep the fans running to move the air around. The workers here are from the local neighborhood and they have stayed with us for a long time. We do not have a huge menu to look at; we just focus on what we know how to make. Sometimes people have to wait on the sidewalk for a table during the lunch rush, but they usually do not seem to mind the wait. It is a plain and straightforward place. We just want to provide a meal for the people living and working around Gorabazar.
