We are based at 40 Strand Road. If you know the area, you know it’s one of the busiest streets you can find. There is constant noise from the traffic and people walking by outside. Our shop is old and has that specific smell of metal and grease that comes with the bearing business. It’s not a large space, so we have to be very organized with how we store the different sizes. We have metal shelves going all the way up to the ceiling. Most of our day is spent climbing ladders to find a specific part for a customer who just walked in. We’ve been at this address for a long time now. The building itself has seen better days, but it’s sturdy and keeps the stock dry during the monsoon. We don’t have any fancy signs or neon lights. Just a simple board outside with the name. It’s a lot of manual work, checking invoices and making sure the counts are right. We deal with a lot of different people, from local mechanics to factory owners. Everyone is usually in a hurry because they need to fix a machine. We try to find what they need quickly so they can get back to their own work. Lunch is usually eaten at the desk between customers. It’s a bit chaotic on Strand Road, but we like being in the middle of all that activity. It feels like we are part of the city’s pulse.
