Seventh Day Adventist High School

Seventh Day Adventist High School is right in the middle of Kaloor. If you know Cochin, you know how busy Kaloor can get. There’s always a bus or an auto-rickshaw making noise right outside our walls. We’ve been here for quite some time, and the building shows its age in a few spots, but it’s sturdy. The students come in through the main gates and the whole place just wakes up instantly. We have a lot of stairs and the classrooms are spread out over a couple of floors. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, so we keep the ceiling fans going at full speed. The staff room is usually a bit of a mess with notebooks piled up on every table. We don’t really have a huge fancy campus, but we make the most of the space in Kaloor. The kids are used to the city noise. Sometimes a parade or a protest goes by on the main road, and we just keep the windows shut for a bit to hear ourselves talk. It’s a practical school. We focus on the lessons and making sure the students are doing their work properly. At the end of the day, when the sun starts to go down, the place finally gets quiet. We lock up and get ready to do it all over again tomorrow. It’s just how life goes here, and we wouldn't really know how to do it any other way than this.
