T D High School

T D High School is right on Palace Road in Mattancherry. It’s an old place. You see the kids coming in every morning from all over Ernakulam. The gate gets busy around eight thirty. We have the standard classrooms and a small yard where they play. Sometimes it gets a bit noisy when the classes let out, but that's how it goes with schools. Mattancherry has changed a lot over the years, but this building stays mostly the same. We have teachers who have been here forever. They know all the families around here. It isn't a fancy new building with glass walls or anything like that. It’s just stone and wood and plenty of desks. Some of the windows don't close right when it rains, but we manage. You’ll find us easily if you walk down from the palace. The post code is 682002. Most people just call it the local school. We spend the days keeping things running, making sure the registers are done and the lessons get through. There's always a bit of dust because of the road traffic nearby. On hot days, the fans just move the warm air around, but the kids don't seem to mind much. They just want to get to lunch. It's a plain kind of life here. Nothing flashy. We just open up in the morning and close up when the last bell rings. It’s been that way for a long time now. We just do our work and go home.
