Kala Bhavan Talent Residential School is over in the Edachira area, specifically in Fr Abel Nagar in Kakknad. Since it’s a residential school, the atmosphere is a bit different than your typical day school. There are always people around, even in the evenings. The buildings are functional, mostly concrete blocks with long balconies where the students hang their laundry. It’s a bit of a maze if you aren't used to it. The kitchen is always busy, and you can smell whatever they’re cooking for lunch from the front gate. We have a lot of green around us, which is nice, but it also means we have to deal with a lot of bugs and grass cutting. The dormitories are basic—just rows of beds and lockers for the kids’ things. We don't have luxury facilities here. It’s more about having a place to sleep and a place to study. The staff lives on-site or nearby, so we’re always around to fix a broken light or help a student who’s feeling homesick. It’s a lot of responsibility keeping a residential place running twenty-four hours a day. We spend a lot of time on maintenance and making sure the water supply is steady. It’s a bit worn down in places, but it’s a place where life happens all the time. We just keep it running the best we can.
