Marhaba Food Court

Marhaba Food Court is inside the MES Building in Kaloor. Ernakulam is always busy and Kaloor is one of those places where something is always happening. We are right in the middle of it. The building is a familiar landmark for people in this part of the city. We spend our mornings getting everything ready for the lunch rush. There is a lot of chopping and stove work involved. It gets noisy with the fans running and the sound of the traffic coming from outside. We don’t have a lot of extra space, so we use what we have to keep things organized. People from the nearby offices and the bus stand often drop in for a quick meal. It’s a practical place, nothing too special to look at, just chairs and tables for people to sit and eat. We don’t spend time on fancy talk or making things look like a palace. We just focus on the cooking and making sure there is enough food for everyone who walks in. The air can get thick with the smell of spices and the humidity from the Kerala weather. We have been here for a bit and we know the rhythm of the street. When the rain starts, the place fills up with people looking for cover and something warm. We just keep serving until the day is done and it’s finally time to clean up the kitchen and the floors for tomorrow. It is a long day but that is just the way it goes.
