Mother Foods

Mother Foods is over in Vidhyadhar Nagar, specifically at 8/229. We aren't a giant factory; it’s more like a large kitchen where things are made in batches. The building is a regular house-style structure in a residential-feeling block. You can usually tell we’re working by the smells coming out of the vents—sometimes it’s spices, sometimes it’s just the smell of something cooking for a long time. We have a small team of people who handle the cooking and the packing. The space is a bit tight with all the industrial-sized pots and the bags of grains stacked up in the corners. We try to keep things organized, but when we’re busy, there are crates everywhere. We started out small and just stayed in this neighborhood because it’s where we’re comfortable. Most of the people who work here live within walking distance. We don't have a big marketing department or anyone in a suit. It’s mostly just people in aprons making food. The floors get mopped a lot because we have to keep everything clean, but it still feels like a workspace, not a showroom. We spend our days filling jars or sealing packets and getting them ready for the delivery trucks. It’s straightforward work. We just show up, do the cooking and the packing at 8/229, and then head home for the evening.
