Great Ganga Restaurant

If you walk down Gali Number 17 in Haridwar, you will find us near Shanti Kunj. This part of town is always full of people, especially pilgrims and travelers who are visiting the holy sites. We’ve been at this spot for a while now. The restaurant is a simple room with enough tables for the crowds that come through. It’s not a quiet place because the street outside is always noisy with bells, rickshaws, and people talking. We open early because people in Haridwar start their day way before the sun is fully up. The kitchen is busy from the start, mostly making the usual items that people expect when they are traveling. We don't have a big menu with fancy names. We just write what we have on the board or tell people. The floor is made of stone and we have to wash it several times a day because of all the feet coming in from the dusty street. Being near Shanti Kunj means we see a lot of the same types of visitors every year. We don't use any complicated machines, just big pots and a lot of manual work. It gets very humid in the rainy season, and the steam from the kitchen doesn't help. We just keep our heads down and serve the food. It’s a basic life here in 249401, just feeding folks who are on their way to somewhere else.
