Shreya Hair Cutting Saloon is down in Hatigaon on the Sijubari Road. Guwahati gets quite hot in the summer, so we always have the fans running at full speed. The shop is located in a spot where there’s a lot of walking traffic throughout the day. We have the usual setup—big chairs that pump up and down, and plenty of talcum powder on the counters. People from the Hatigaon area know us as a place to just walk in and get a haircut. There is no need for fancy appointments or anything like that here. We see a lot of kids coming in with their dads on the weekends, and they usually want the same style every time. The mirrors have some spots on them and the radio plays local stations in the background. Sometimes the scissors need oiling and you can hear that snip-snip sound all day long. We keep the spray bottles filled with water to dampen the hair before we start. It’s a simple life running a shop on Sijubari Road. We see the same people every month. Some stay to chat about the weather or the price of things at the market, while others just want to get done and go. We don't have any neon signs or anything, just the name on the front and the door is usually propped open to let some air in. It’s a honest little shop for the neighborhood folks.
