Beauty Hair Dressers Saloon. Paltanbazar is always a mess with all the people coming from the railway station. My shop is on Manipuri East Road. It's a narrow street and can get very congested. I open up around nine in the morning. The signage outside is a bit crooked because of a storm we had last year. Inside, I have four chairs lined up. The mirrors are old and have some black spots around the edges. I use a lot of white towels, and I wash them at home every night. The smell of the shop is a mix of soap and cheap perfume. I don't have many assistants, maybe just one boy who helps with the shaving. We get a lot of travelers who just arrived in Guwahati and need to look decent for a meeting. The floor is made of grey marble and it's quite hard on the feet. I have a small stool where I sit when there are no customers. Sometimes I fall asleep there for ten minutes. The water in the basin takes a while to drain. I keep a calendar on the wall with pictures of temples. Every day feels pretty much the same. You cut hair, you sweep, you talk a bit, and you go home. It’s a decent way to earn a living in this part of town. The tea here is strong and I get a cup every two hours from the shop around the corner. I don't use any computers for records, I just remember faces and what people usually want.
