You can find us at Adabari Tiniali, right on the Pandu Port Road. Guwahati is a busy place, and this corner is no different. Pankesh Hair Cutting Salon is tucked in among the other shops here. It’s the kind of place where the door is usually propped open with a brick. Inside, we have three chairs and a long mirror that runs the length of the wall. The sink in the back is where we wash up, and the pipes sometimes make a rattling noise. We get a lot of people passing through on their way to the port or the bus stand. It’s a noisy spot with all the trucks and rickshaws going by outside, but we’re used to it. We just keep our heads down and work. The floor gets covered in hair pretty fast, so someone is always grabbing the broom to sweep it into the corner. We keep our combs in jars and our scissors in a wooden drawer. There’s no big sign or anything, just the name on the front. People know us by the location mostly.
