Smurti Mahila Farmer Producer Company Limited is based out of Wadegaon, which is a small place in the Tirora area of Gondia. We started this because the women here wanted to have their own setup for handling the farm produce and making their own decisions. We operate from 417/1, at Damodhar Govardhan Gajapureat in Wadegaon. It’s mostly just us getting together to see what needs to be done with the latest harvest and how to handle the sales. Since we are a women's group, we have to balance the housework and the farm work, which isn't always easy. There’s a lot of talking and sometimes it takes a while to get everyone on the same page, but we manage. We aren't trying to be some big corporate entity with lots of rules. We just want to make sure the crops we grow get sold properly and we don't lose out to the middleman. The roads around here can be tough during the rains, so getting things to Wadegaon takes a lot of effort. You won’t find any fancy reception area here, just a room with some registers and maybe some grain bags in the corner. It’s honest work. We deal with whatever challenges come up day to day, like electricity cuts or finding enough bags for the grain. It is a bit slow sometimes, but we are making progress in our own way.
