Sindhukanya Mahila Farmer Producercompany Limited is located in Mazgaon, which is in the Sawantwadi area of Sindhudurg. We operate out of Udayammnagar, specifically near where Arvind Babal Gawas stays. This whole thing started because a lot of the women around here wanted to do something more with the crops we grow. Living in the Konkan, we have our own way of doing things, and it is usually a bit different from the rest of the state. We aren't trying to be some giant company that you see on the news. Instead, we are just a bunch of local women who know how to work the land. It is quite a task to manage both the house and the farming business, but we manage somehow. We spend our days dealing with whatever the current season throws at us. Sometimes the rains are too much and other times they aren't enough. We talk about how to get our produce to the market without losing money. It is all very practical and down to earth. We meet up at the Mazgaon office to sort out the paperwork, which is probably the hardest part for us. We just want to make sure everyone involved gets a fair shake for the effort they put in. It’s a lot of talking and planning over tea. We don’t have any fancy talk here, just regular work and trying to get things right for our families. It takes a lot of effort, but we are happy to be doing it together as a group.
