Out here at Plot No-2525 in Ambapada, things move at their own pace. We are the Mahima Alekh Farmers Producer Companylimited, though mostly people just call us by our names. Being in the Gondia block means we deal with a lot of dust and plenty of sun. Our spot in Karmul is basically a room where we can all meet up after the day’s work is done in the fields. It’s not much to look at from the outside, just a door and a small sign. Inside, we have some chairs and a table that’s seen better days. We put this company together because doing everything alone was getting too expensive. Now we buy our stuff in bulk and it helps a little with the costs. You won’t find anyone here wearing a suit. We wear what we wear to the fields. Sometimes someone brings snacks and we spend an hour talking about the pests or the new tractor parts. It’s a regular life for us. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make sure the farmers in Ambapada get a decent deal for their hard work. There’s always someone coming or going, checking on the paperwork or asking when the next shipment is coming. It’s noisy and messy but it’s ours. We handle everything from the seeds to the selling part as best as we can. We just take it one season at a time and hope for rain.
