Green Garden Restaurant

This place is tucked inside Hotel Banaras Haveli. Being near Assi Ghat means we get all sorts of people walking in. Some are pilgrims who have been traveling for days, others are just locals from Varanasi - 221005 looking for a quiet spot away from the main road noise. The garden part of the name is because we have some plants around, though keeping them green in the summer heat here is quite a job. We spend a lot of time watering them in the evenings. The kitchen is small but we manage. You can hear the temple bells if you sit near the edge. We aren’t trying to be a five-star place. It’s more about having a chair to sit on and some decent food while you look at the old walls of the haveli. Sometimes the service is a bit slow when a big group comes in from the ghats, but nobody seems to mind much. We just keep things moving as fast as the stove allows. The menu has what it has. We don't do anything too fancy. It’s just us and a few helpers making sure things are clean. Being at B-1/224 means we are right in the middle of everything, yet it feels a bit hidden. We like it that way. If the weather is nice, the outdoor seating is the first to fill up. We just work here and keep it going.
