Ganga View Roof Top Restaurant

You have to come up to the roof of Sita Guest House to find us. We are right there at Chausatti Ghat in Varanasi. Being at D 22/16 means we have a lot of stairs to climb every day. It’s an old building, so the walls have some character, and maybe a bit of peeling paint here and there. From the top, you can see the Ganga river flowing by, which is why we picked this spot. It’s usually a bit quieter up here than down on the busy streets of Dasasumedh. We get a lot of travelers staying at the guest house who just want a place to sit and look at the water. The monkeys sometimes try to join in, so we have to keep an eye out for them. The kitchen is small and gets pretty warm in the summer months. We don't have any fancy air conditioning, just the breeze from the river if we're lucky. In the evenings, you can hear the bells from the aarti nearby. It's a simple place with wooden tables and a few plants. We cook what we know, mostly things that people like to eat when they are far from home. It's not a five-star setup, just a rooftop where you can see the boats go by. We spend a lot of time cleaning up the dust that blows in from the ghats. It’s a lot of work, but we like being by the river.
