Chatni Restaurant

Chatni Restaurant is tucked away in Shivala, right behind the post office. If you know Varanasi, you know these narrow streets can be a bit of a maze sometimes. We are at B-3/119, and it’s a quiet enough corner considering how busy the rest of the city can be. We’ve been operating out of this building for some time. It's not a large place, just a few tables and a kitchen that stays pretty hot throughout the day. My brother and I usually handle the morning shopping at the local market to get what we need. It’s a bit of a walk, but it’s the best way to make sure things are fresh. We get a lot of people who work nearby coming in for a quick lunch break. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re more focused on the cooking than the decor right now. Varanasi has so much history, and being in an old area like Shivala feels right. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just find us by walking past or hearing about us from their neighbors. It’s a humble spot, nothing like those big tourist places you see near the ghats. We just keep our heads down and do the work. Sometimes we run out of things early if it's a busy Tuesday, but that's just life in a small restaurant. We keep things simple because that's all we really know how to do here.
