Soorabi Bar & Restaurant

Pethri is a quiet enough place in the Cherkady area of Udupi. That is where we are. It’s a bar and restaurant, so things are a bit different than a regular cafe. We have the tables laid out in a way that gives people some space. Udupi is known for food, but we are just a local spot for people to sit and have a drink or something to eat. The building is plain. We don't have big neon signs or anything like that. Inside, it’s usually a bit dim to keep it cool. We spend a lot of time checking the inventory and cleaning the glasses. The sound of the fridge humming is always in the background. Sometimes we get people traveling through Cherkady, but mostly it’s local men from around Pethri. We have a small staff. We do the cleaning and the serving ourselves. It’s a lot of standing and walking back and forth. The kitchen is at the back. We try to keep things orderly, but on busy nights, it gets a bit chaotic with everyone talking at once. We don't have fancy uniforms. Just regular clothes that we don't mind getting a bit dirty. The floor is tiled and easy to mop at the end of the night. It's a steady life here in Udupi. We just open up the doors and see how the day goes. There isn't much more to it than that for us.
