Dawath Family Restaurant

Dawath Family Restaurant is right there in Udupi, just opposite the Kediyoor Hotel. If you know where the service bus stand is, then we are basically behind that. It’s a very busy part of town because of all the people catching buses to different places. You can hear the conductors shouting destinations all day long. Our place is really just a spot for families and travelers to sit down for a bit. It’s not a quiet place because of the location, but that’s just how it is. We have the usual tables and some fans that we keep running all the time because Udupi gets pretty humid. The floor is just tile and we spend a lot of time mopping it because people bring in dust from the bus stand area. We don’t have a big menu with hundreds of items, just the things we know how to make well. Some of the staff have been with me for years and they know the regulars who come in every week. It’s funny how you get to know someone’s order before they even sit down. We don’t do any of that fancy plating or anything. The food comes out hot on regular plates. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late at night when the last buses are leaving. We just try to keep the place decent and the food edible for everyone who stops by.
