Biryani Adda

You can find Biryani Adda in the Krishnaleela Building over in Saralebet Manipal. We are right opposite the MIT campus, which means our life revolves around the student calendar. When the exams are on, the place is quiet, but as soon as they finish, it gets wild. Manipal is a unique place with people from all over India, so we try to make something that everyone likes. The building is a typical Manipal structure, and we have a small corner of it. It’s not very big, so students often end up sharing tables and talking to people they don’t know. We see a lot of the same faces every day. The rain in Udupi can be very heavy, and people often run into our shop just to stay dry for a bit. We don’t mind. We have some old posters on the walls and the music is usually whatever the staff wants to hear on the radio. It’s a casual vibe. We don't have a manager in a suit; it’s just us in our aprons. We do our own cleaning and we do our own dishes. The kitchen is small, so we have to be quick. Sometimes we run out of gas or the water stops, but we always figure it out. It’s just a local hang-out spot where the food is hot and the prices are fair for a student budget. That's how we do things in Manipal.
