Sheesh Mahal (The Leela Palace)

Sheesh Mahal is located inside The Leela Palace, right on the edge of Lake Pichola here in Udaipur. The address is Udaipur Ho, 313001. Being by the lake means we get a lot of breeze and a very specific kind of view, which everyone seems to talk about. We are just the people who work here and keep the restaurant running every day. It’s a big building, very traditional looking, and we spend a lot of time walking back and forth through the halls to make sure everything is where it should be. Working at Lake Pichola is interesting because the light changes on the water all day long. We start early to get things prepped and stay until the last person leaves in the evening. It’s a lot of physical work, honestly. We have to keep everything looking sharp because of where we are, but at the end of the day, it’s still a kitchen and a dining area that needs constant attention. We see people from all over the world coming through Udaipur Ho. Most of them are here to see the lake and the old buildings. We just provide a place for them to sit and eat while they do that. It’s a busy job, and the days can be quite long, but being right there by the water makes the routine feel a little different than working on a regular city street.
