Bandwal Restaurant & Bhojnalaya

If you walk through Nehru Bazar in Udaipur, you’ll find us easily enough. Bandwal Restaurant & Bhojnalaya is tucked away at 108-A, right in the middle of all the market noise. It’s a busy place, especially around lunchtime when the shopkeepers and shoppers all get hungry at the same time. Our kitchen is small and it gets very hot in there, especially during the Udaipur summers. We don't have any fancy decorations or soft chairs. It’s just plain tables and benches where you can sit down and eat a proper meal. We focus on simple food, the kind you’d eat at home. There is always the sound of clinking plates and people talking loudly over the traffic outside. We’ve been at this address for a while now, and we know most of our regulars by name. They don't come for the atmosphere; they just want a plate of hot food that doesn't cost too much. Sometimes the service is a bit slow when the place is packed, but we do what we can. We spend our mornings chopping vegetables and getting the big pots ready. By the time evening rolls around, we’re pretty tired, but then the dinner crowd starts coming in. It’s just a local bhojnalaya, nothing more and nothing less. We keep it honest and try to keep everyone fed. That is basically our whole day.
