Shah Handicarfts is right at 9, Lal Ghat Marg, situated just behind the Jagdish Temple. You can always hear the temple bells and the sound of the crowds from our doorstep. It’s a small place and every inch of the walls is covered with something or other. We spend the morning sweeping the front and setting out some of the brass items so people can see them as they walk by. It’s a very busy area with tourists and locals always moving back and forth. Sometimes it gets so crowded that people just stand in our doorway to get out of the sun for a minute. We don’t mind, it’s just part of being in this part of town. The shop has been in the family for a while and we’ve kept it pretty much the same as it was years ago. We have a lot of different handicrafts tucked into the shelves and sometimes we find things we forgot we had. It's mostly just me and my cousin working here throughout the week. We eat our lunch in the back room and take turns watching the front. When the evening prayers start at the temple, the whole street feels different and that’s usually when we start thinking about closing up. It’s a good spot to be in despite the noise and the constant movement of the crowds.
