Hansa Handicraft is located at 76 Moti Chohata. Being on this street means you are always in the middle of the action. It is a busy place, and we are right in the thick of it. The shop itself is one of those narrow spaces that goes back further than you think it would. We have shelves all the way to the ceiling, mostly filled with handmade items that we get from local makers. Every morning, we open the big metal shutters and start the day by cleaning the front step. There is a lot of dust that settles overnight. We aren't trying to be some fancy gallery; we just have things that we think are decent and well-made. Sometimes we have a bit of a mess in the back with packing peanuts and tape, especially when we are sending things out. The ceiling fan wobbles a little bit on the high setting, but it keeps the air moving. We get all kinds of people in here, from locals looking for something for their house to people from far away who are just passing through. It’s a simple life, really. We show up, we talk to people, and we go home when it gets dark. The neighborhood has changed a lot, but this shop stays pretty much the same. We just keep doing what we know how to do, day after day.
